October Message

District Instructional Model Survey

Next week the District will be sending everyone an email to determine if they are considering a change in their selected instructional model for the second semester. You need to respond only if you are requesting a change. There will be a separate survey for transportation. Please be on the look out for these emails.

School Closure

We remain optimistic that we will be able to continue with our hybrid instructional model for the foreseeable future. But we need to be prepared for a sudden short and long-term closure. Here is how we will ensure the continuity of instruction in the event of a closure:

  • Students would continue their in-school daily schedule at home using Zoom to attend synchronous classes with their teachers.
  • Wednesdays would remain set aside for student hours. Students would continue to sign up directly to meet with a teacher. Teachers may also request small group or individual meetings.
  • Instructional materials would continue to be pushed out electronically to students via Google Classroom or other digital means asynchronously on the remote days as it is now.

Operoo Reminder

Hybrid and remote students should use Operoo to take attendance on days that they are either not physically in school or on days that their remote cohort does not have synchronous classes.

Halloween Costume Contest

Our costume contest will be held on Tuesday, October 27th and Friday, October 30th. Each homeroom will vote on the best costume. Our Student Council has a prize for each winner. Costume masks can be worn for judging only.

Daily Attendance Procedure

Operoo Logo

Camillus Middle takes daily building attendance whether a student is in-school, at home (hybrid), or fully remote. In-school attendance will be taken by homeroom teachers directly into Schooltool. On days when students are at home we will be utilizing a program called Operoo. Tomorrow your child will receive an email prompting them to create an account. Please assist them if necessary and help them to get in the habit of answering the prompt each day. We will also review this process with them here at school.

Welcome to CMS

 Dear CMS Families~

To our returning families...welcome back!

To our new families...welcome to CMS!

I hope that this message finds you and your family well and enjoying this spectacular CNY summer. We are all counting the days until we can welcome our students back to class. I want you to know that I will be communicating important information as it becomes solidified and ready for publication. You will receive an email notification as I send out each message. You can also periodically check the Principal's Message space on the CMS web page. In the meanwhile, please reach out to me at any time. My email address in blozier@westgenesee.org and the Main Office phone number is 315-672-3159. I am always eager to speak with you directly.

Here are a few items I can update you on:

Supply Lists - We are finalizing these now because we have so many new teachers joining our team. We will get them out to you next week. Students will not be assigned lockers. They will be taking their supplies back and forth with them in their backpacks each day. Every student will receive a planner on the first day of school.

Cohort Formation and Master Scheduling - Each cohort will have approximately 14 students. Students will not be moving to their classes. Each content area teacher will rotate into each individual cohort’s classroom. Master scheduling is currently taking place, and your child’s daily schedule will be available in Schooltool later this month. We will push out a notification when they are ready for viewing.

Reopening Plan and Masks - Students and teachers will  be required to wear masks throughout the day. There will be brief, teacher-guided breaks periodically. Now would be a great time to have a supply of masks on hand at home and to have your child practice wearing one for a longer period of time. As a reminder, the District Reopening Plan has been published for your reference.

Orientation - We typically do a very thorough in-school orientation. We are planning to cover all the typical topics during our first few days of school. I will also organize a Zoom meeting for parents and guardians so that you have the opportunity to connect with me.

District Q & A - Mark your calendars for the District Council PTA and PTO panel discussion with Mr. Bills and other administrators on August 19th and 20th at 6:00 pm. A link for signing up to attend this meeting will be going out shortly so please be on the lookout.

We all know that September 2020 will look and feel very different from September 2019. Even so, we are fully committed to each individual child’s social, emotional, and academic growth. Safety will always be our priority, and I am confident that we can integrate all of the new requirements into our daily practices.

I look forward to meeting all of you, and I am looking forward to what is going to be an outstanding 2020-2021 school year. Stay safe and be well.
